Hash browns are crispy grated potato patties that are perfect for breakfast or as a side dish. This recipe uses an air fryer to make them extra crispy without much oil.
Peel 4 pcs potatoes and grate them coarsely on the grater.
Squeeze out as much liquid as possible from the grated potatoes by pressing them in paper towels or a clean tea towel.
Grate 1 pcs onion and mix it together with the potatoes in a bowl.
Add 1 pcs egg, 2 tbsp plain flour, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp black pepper, 1 tsp garlic powder and 1 tsp onion powder. Mix well.
Form 8 flat patties from the potato mixture. Press the patties together firmly, or place them on perforated baking paper so the grated potato does not fall through the basket.
Brush or spray 1 tbsp oil onto each hash brown.
Preheat the air fryer to 200 °C. (Preprogram it, or let it run for a couple of minutes before cooking)
Place the hash browns in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they do not overlap.
Fry at 200 °C for 10–12 min, turning them halfway through, until they are golden and crispy.Start the online kitchen timer here
Take the hash browns out and let them cool slightly on a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.
Notes
For extra crispiness, you can add a little more oil or cook them for a couple of minutes longer.
