Meringue nests are a delicious and airy dessert that's perfect for impressing your guests. The meringues are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, and they're easy to make in an air fryer. Top them with fresh fruit, berries, or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.
Make sure all utensils are completely clean and dry, as even small amounts of fat or moisture can prevent the egg whites from whipping properly.
Whisk the egg whites:
In a clean bowl, whisk 3 pcs egg whites with a stand mixer or hand mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form.
Add the sugar:
Add 150 g sugar a little at a time while you continue whisking, until the meringue is glossy and forms stiff peaks. The sugar must be completely dissolved.
Add the vinegar:
Gently fold 1 tsp vinegar into the meringue with a spatula.
Shape the meringue:
Fill the meringue into a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle and pipe small nests onto baking paper that fits in the air fryer.
Cooking:
Preheat the air fryer to 120°C.(Pre-program it, or let it run for a couple of minutes before cooking)Place the baking paper with the meringue nests in the air fryer and bake for about 30-40 minutes, until they are dry and crisp.Start the online kitchen timer here
Let cool:
Let the meringue nests cool completely on the baking paper.
Serving:
Fill the cooled meringue nests with 1 bowl Fresh strawberries, or other fresh fruit, and optionally with 1 bowl whipped cream.
Notes
Make sure no egg yolk gets into the egg whites, as this will prevent them from whipping properly.
