Patatas Bravas is a popular Spanish tapas dish consisting of fried potatoes served with a spicy tomato sauce. This recipe adapts the traditional method for an air fryer, making preparation quicker and less greasy.
Preheat the air fryer to 200°C. (Pre-program it, or let it run for a couple of minutes before cooking)
Cut 1 kg potatoes into cubes and toss with 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp paprika and 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper in a bowl.
Spread the potato cubes in the air fryer basket and air fry for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden and crispy.Shake the basket halfway through cooking for even browning.Start the online kitchen timer here
While the potatoes are cooking, heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.Sauté 1 pcs onion and 2 clove garlic until they are soft.
Add 400 g canned tomatoes, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp smoked paprika and 1 pinch chilli flakes.Let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes, until it is reduced and spicy.Start the online kitchen timer here
When the potatoes are done, serve them warm with the spicy tomato sauce poured over or on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper and chilli flakes depending on how spicy you want the sauce.
- For an authentic Spanish touch, sprinkle with finely chopped fresh parsley before serving.
