This recipe gives a delicious and juicy pulled beef burger that you can enjoy with your favourite sides. Note that it requires a slightly larger airfryer model if you want to slow-cook the meat for a long time, as mentioned in the recipe here. See an adapted version of the recipe under OUR BEST TIPS FOR THE RECIPE.
Prepare the meat:Pat 800 g beef brisket dry with kitchen paper. Mix the spices in a bowl and rub them well into the meat.
Airfryer:Preheat your airfryer to 120°C. Place the beef brisket in the airfryer and let it cook at 120°C for about 4 hours.Use a kitchen thermometer to check that the internal temperature reaches at least 90°C, which is ideal for a "pulled" consistency.
Resting time:When the meat is done, wrap it in aluminium foil and let it rest for 20 minutes.
Pull the meat:Use a fork to "pull" or shred the meat.
Assembling the burger:Lightly toast the hamburger buns. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on the bottom of each bun, add the pulled beef, topped with BBQ sauce, onion rings, and optionally coleslaw or pickles.Cover with the top part of the bun.
Notes
You can use pre-cooked beef brisket to reduce the cooking time in the airfryer. When you use pre-cooked beef brisket, the main purpose of the airfryer is to add flavour through caramelisation and heat the meat to the desired temperature, rather than cooking it from raw.
Here is an adapted version of the recipe with pre-cooked beef brisket:
Ingredients:
1 kg pre-cooked beef brisket
Spice mix (as mentioned in the original recipe)
The rest of the ingredients as before
Cooking time: Approx. 1 hour in the airfryer
Total time: Approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes
Method:
Prepare the meat: If the beef brisket is in the fridge, let it come to room temperature. Pat the surface dry with kitchen paper and rub the spice mix in well.
Airfryer: Preheat your airfryer to 150°C. Place the pre-cooked beef brisket in the airfryer. Since the meat is already cooked, you only need to use the airfryer to heat the meat through and add a delicious crust.
Cooking: Let the meat cook in the airfryer for about 1 hour, or until the surface is caramelised and the meat is heated through. Check that the meat is hot enough in the centre before serving.
Resting time and "pulling": Follow the same resting time and "pulling" process as in the original recipe.
By using pre-cooked beef brisket, you save a lot of time, and the process becomes more manageable, especially if you are planning a meal with a shorter preparation time. However, keep in mind that the flavour and texture may vary a little from traditionally slow-cooked beef brisket, but the result will still be delicious.Always remember to adjust spices and sides to your personal taste.
