Shepherd's Pie made in the air fryer gives a crisp top and a faster cooking time than the traditional oven method. It's perfect for a quick, nourishing dinner, combining juicy meat with a soft mashed-potato topping.
Prepare the filling:Brown 400 g minced lamb (you can use beef as an alternative) in a pan. Add 1 pcs onion, 2 pcs carrot and 2 clove garlic, and sauté until softened. Add 1 tbsp tomato purée and 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Add 125 ml vegetable stock, and let it simmer until it thickens, about 10 minutes. Season with 1 tsp salt and pepper.
Make the mashed potatoes:Boil 400 g potatoes until tender.Drain and mash them with 40 ml milk, 25 g butter and a little salt and pepper.Stir in 50 g grated Cheddar cheese, if using.
Assemble the Shepherd's Pie: Place the meat filling in an air-fryer-safe dish. Top with the mashed potatoes and smooth the surface.
Bake in the air fryer: Set the air fryer to 180 °C and bake the pie for about 15-20 minutes, or until the surface is golden and crisp.
Serve:Let the pie rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Adjust the amount of stock for a thicker or more saucy consistency.
