Why make cauliflower gratin in the Air Fryer?
Cauliflower gratin in the air fryer lets us achieve the perfect combination of a tender, creamy interior and a crispy, golden-brown surface — all with a significantly shorter cooking time than traditional methods.
What gives cauliflower gratin its flavor character?
This cauliflower recipe is a lavish and hearty dish that combines the mild, slightly nutty flavor of cauliflower with a rich, full-bodied and creamy cheese sauce. The creamy texture of the cooked cauliflower is perfectly complemented by the crispy topping, which adds a contrast in both flavor and texture. All in all, cauliflower gratin is a balance between mildness, creaminess and a crunchy texture that appeals to both the senses and the palate.
The perfect glass of wine for the cauliflower gratin
The creamy cheese sauce and the mild cauliflower call for a white wine with body and character. We recommend a glass of Louis Latour Grand Ardèche Chardonnay. This French, oak-aged white wine offers lovely, rounded notes that harmonize beautifully with the gratin’s crunchy topping and rich flavor. Pour a cool glass and let it accompany this delightful meal. Enjoy!
How do you get the gratin tender inside and crispy outside but not dry?
Achieving the perfect texture in a cauliflower gratin requires careful attention to the details of the cooking process. By lightly boiling the cauliflower before using it in the gratin, we achieve a tender and soft interior texture. When we cook the gratin in the air fryer, we ensure that it turns crispy without drying out by using hot-air technology. It’s also important to add enough cheese sauce to keep the cauliflower juicy and delicious during cooking.
Can you add meat such as bacon and ham to the cauliflower gratin?
Of course, you can add extra flavor and protein to your cauliflower gratin by including meat such as bacon or ham. These ingredients add an extra layer of salt and umami to the dish and can complement the creamy cauliflower base perfectly. You can either fry the meat lightly first and mix it into the cheese sauce, or you can layer it between the cauliflower for a richer taste experience.
Make a delicious shellfish variation with: 200 g shrimp, peeled and cleaned. 200 g crayfish tails, thawed if frozen. Add them to the dish just before it goes into the air fryer.
