Ingredients for Baked Pears

When it comes to making this dessert, the ingredients are both simple and easy to find. This makes the dessert accessible to everyone, no matter how experienced you are in the kitchen. Let’s take a look at what you’ll need:

I recommend this aromatic pear liqueur for our baked pears

When serving baked pears, it’s a great idea to enhance the flavour with a good fruit liqueur. I can warmly recommend Poire William pear liqueur in a gift box – it’s a perfect match for this dessert. Best, Morten.

Pears

The most important ingredient in this recipe is, of course, the pears. It’s best to choose ripe pears, as they have a natural sweetness and a softer texture once baked. Two Danish pear varieties that work well for baked pears are Clara Frijs and Conference.

  • Clara Frijs is known for its juiciness and mild sweetness, which makes it well suited for baking, as it retains its flavour and texture during cooking.
  • The Conference pear has a firm texture and a balanced sweetness that holds up well when baked, making it ideal for this dessert.

Butter

Butter adds a richness to the dish that makes the pears extra decadent. As the butter melts over the pears during baking, it creates a delicious sauce that complements the fruit’s sweetness. You can use unsalted butter to control the salt content, but if you like a little contrast in flavour, a bit of salted butter can also be used.

Honey

Honey is the primary source of sweetness in this dessert. It gives a natural, floral flavour that pairs perfectly with the pears. The honey’s viscosity also helps the spices cling to the pears, ensuring the flavour is evenly distributed. If you want a different flavour nuance, you can experiment with different types of honey, such as acacia or wildflower honey.

Cinnamon and Vanilla

Cinnamon and vanilla are classic spices that add warmth and sweetness to the dish. Cinnamon’s spicy warmth and vanilla’s soft, aromatic notes give depth to the dessert’s flavour. These spices aren’t just decoration; they’re essential for creating the harmonious flavour profile that makes baked pears something special.

Nuts and Raisins (Optional)

To give the dish a bit of extra texture and flavour variation, you can choose to add chopped nuts and raisins. Walnuts or almonds are good choices, as they add a crunchy contrast to the soft pears, while the raisins add extra sweetness and a slight touch of tartness. These additions are entirely optional, but they can really take the dish to the next level.

What to Serve It With?

Baked pears from the air fryer can be served in many ways, depending on what you’re in the mood for. A classic and simple way is to serve them with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cold cream or ice cream melts easily when it meets the warm pears, creating an unbeatable contrast in both temperature and texture.

Danish Ice Cream Brands and Types That Pair Well with Baked Pears:

  • Hansens Flødeis: Their classic vanilla ice cream is a perfect match for baked pears. The vanilla’s clean, rounded flavour complements the pears’ sweetness without overpowering it.
  • Svaneke Is: This ice cream maker from Bornholm makes a delicious salted caramel ice cream, which adds depth and contrast to the sweet baked pears.
  • Social Foodies: Their vanilla ice cream with real vanilla seeds has a rich flavour and creamy texture that harmonises beautifully with the warm pears. Their chocolate ice cream could also be an exciting and intense contrast to the dish.

These ice cream varieties will elevate the dessert’s flavour experience and provide a lovely contrast between warm and cold.

Variations of Baked Pears in the Air Fryer

Even though the classic baked pears recipe is delightful on its own, there are plenty of ways to vary the dish. For example, you can add a bit of grated ginger to the butter and honey mixture to give the dessert a spicy twist. The ginger’s warmth will complement the pears’ sweetness and add an exciting new dimension to the dish.

Another option is to replace the honey with maple syrup if you prefer a different kind of sweetness. Maple syrup has a deeper, more complex flavour than honey, and it can be an exciting way to change the character of the dish. You can also experiment with adding different nuts, such as pecans or pistachios, to give the dish a unique flavour and texture.

You could also consider using a touch of cardamom along with the cinnamon for an exotic and aromatic flavour profile.
