Why Make Mummy Biscuits in the Air Fryer?

Mummy biscuits are creative and visually appealing biscuits that are perfect for Halloween. Although the air fryer makes the cooking easier, it’s the end result that matters most – the spooky but sweet biscuits. The biscuits are not only fun to eat, but also fun to make, especially when you get to play with icing and decorations. Each mummy biscuit can be personalised, so every one looks a little different. That makes them perfect for letting the children express their creativity.

  • Decoration is key: A big part of the charm of mummy biscuits is how they look. The icing, which is designed to look like mummy bandages, is easy to work with, and fondant eyes give them a lively and fun look.
  • Simple biscuit dough: The biscuit recipe itself is simple, so the focus can be on the decorating. That makes it easy for both adults and children to join in.
  • A fun experience for children: Mummy biscuits in the air fryer are easy to make, and the children can take part in almost the whole process – from shaping the biscuits to adding the final details with icing and eyes.

Try adding a little grated lemon zest or orange zest to the icing. It gives a fresh flavour and adds an extra dimension to the sweet biscuits.

Tips and tricks from the author: Morten Jensen

Halloween is all about creativity and play, and mummy biscuits capture exactly that. They are an easy and accessible snack that everyone can help make.

Fun Drinks for Mummy Biscuits in the Air Fryer

When you serve your mummy biscuits, you can make the experience even more memorable by pairing them with fun and spooky drinks. Here are some good ideas for drinks that go perfectly with the creative biscuits and the Halloween atmosphere.

  • Blood-red cordial or juice: A red drink made from, for example, Danish raspberry cordial can look like blood and suits the theme perfectly. It can be served in glasses with fake spiders or with a red sugar rim that looks like dripping blood.
  • Slimy soda: Green soda, such as a lime or cucumber variety, can be made even spookier by adding gummy worms or jelly candy that float around in the glass.
  • Pumpkin shakes: Make a delicious shake flavoured with pumpkin and cinnamon. By using pumpkin purée, you can create a drink that is both seasonal and surprisingly tasty.

You can also make ice cubes with small spiders inside (use food-safe plastic figures), so it looks extra scary when the ice melts in the drink. The drinks should be part of the experience and can be just as entertaining as the biscuits themselves. When you pair these spooky drinks with the mummy biscuits, you create a complete Halloween experience for both children and adults.

How to Create the Perfect Halloween Atmosphere

In addition to making delicious mummy biscuits in the air fryer and fun drinks, the table setting and decorations are just as important for creating the right Halloween atmosphere.

Here are some tips for your fun Halloween biscuits and Halloween cookies:

  • Use dark and spooky colours: Black, purple and orange are classic Halloween colours that are easy to use in both table settings and background decorations. A black tablecloth with white cobwebs and small plastic spiders can create the perfect atmosphere.
  • Edible decorations: In addition to mummy biscuits, you can make small spooky snacks that fit the theme. Think candy corn, pumpkin muffins or edible ghosts made from meringue. Decorate the table with small candy bowls filled with a variety of Halloween treats.
  • The centrepiece of the table: You can create an impressive centrepiece using pumpkins. Either carved pumpkins with a light inside, or small decorative pumpkins that you paint black or white for an extra dramatic look.
  • Candles and dimmed lighting: By using small LED candles or lanterns, you can create a cosy but slightly spooky atmosphere around the table. Be careful with real candles when children are around, but LED lights give the same effect without any risk.

Conclusion: Mummy Biscuits in the Air Fryer

Mummy biscuits in the air fryer are a fun and easy way to bring the Halloween spirit into your home. They combine creativity, flavour and child-friendly cooking, which makes them perfect for all ages. When you combine fun Halloween biscuits and Halloween cookies with spooky drinks and decorations, you elevate the whole experience and turn it into a memorable part of the Halloween celebrations.

How to make it

Prepare the biscuit dough:

  • Mix 100 g butter and 100 g sugar in a bowl and whisk until light and fluffy.
  • Add 1 pcs egg and 1 tsp vanilla sugar and whisk until well combined.
  • Stir 200 g plain flour, ½ tsp baking powder and 1 pinch salt together in another bowl, then add it a little at a time to the butter mixture until you have a firm dough.

Roll out the dough:

  • Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and roll it out to a thickness of about 5 mm.
  • Use a cookie cutter to cut out round or square biscuits (about 8).
  • If you don’t have a cookie cutter, you can use a cup or a glass.

Baking in the air fryer:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 160 °C.
  • Carefully place the biscuits in the basket (use baking paper if necessary).
  • Bake the biscuits for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly golden.

  • Let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Make the icing:

  • In a bowl, mix 150 g icing sugar with a little water or lemon juice until you have a thick but spreadable icing.
  • Pour the icing into a piping bag or a plastic bag, and snip a small hole in the corner.

Decorate the mummy biscuits:

  • Pipe stripes across the biscuits with the icing so they look like mummy bandages.
  • Be creative and pipe stripes both horizontally and diagonally for a realistic look.
  • Add fondant eyes or small candy eyes by gently pressing them onto the icing while it is still wet.

Let the icing set:

  • Let the biscuits rest for about 10-15 minutes so the icing can dry completely before serving.
