Why make raisin buns in the air fryer?
Baking raisin buns in an air fryer has several advantages. First, it significantly reduces cooking time compared to a traditional oven. The air fryer heats up quickly and circulates hot air effectively around the food, ensuring even baking in less time. In addition, the air fryer requires less or no oil and fat, resulting in healthier buns with slightly fewer calories.
Why use raisins in buns?
Raisins not only add a natural sweetness to buns, but they’re also rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. The light, fruity sweetness of raisins perfectly complements the soft and fluffy texture of the buns. It adds an interesting texture and depth of flavor. Raisins also have a natural preservative effect due to their sugar content, which helps the buns stay fresh longer.
I recommend a warm cup of cocoa with the raisin buns
Warm raisin buns straight from your air fryer invite genuine hygge, and what goes better with that than a good, warm cup of cocoa? I can highly recommend our wonderful Freehand Cocoa Dreamy Kakao for this very recipe. The cocoa’s mild and creamy chocolate flavor pairs wonderfully with the buns’ soft texture and sweet raisins. Happy baking!
What flavor variations of raisin buns can you make?
In addition to classic raisin buns, you can experiment with a range of different dried fruits to create new flavor variations. A popular variant is replacing some of the raisins with dried cranberries, which add a fresh and slightly tart flavor. This balances the sweetness of the bun. Another variation could be mixing chopped dried apricot into the dough, which gives a slightly more tropical nuance to the flavor profile. Finally, a combination of dried figs and a pinch of cinnamon can give the buns a deeper, almost Christmassy flavor, which is especially delicious during the cooler months.
Missing the taste of hveder (traditional Danish buns)? Then you can add a tsp. of cardamom to the buns. It goes well with the raisins.

What jam or accompaniment goes well with this particular bun?
Raisin buns can be enjoyed on their own, but they’re also fantastic with different accompaniments. A classic knob of butter melted on a warm raisin bun is simply heavenly. For those who prefer a bit more sweetness, a good quality apricot or peach jam can be an excellent choice, as the sweet and slightly tart flavor of the jam perfectly complements the raisins. For a more luxurious variation, a cream cheese or mascarpone mixed with a little honey and vanilla can be an excellent choice, adding a creamy and rich dimension to the bun.
Conclusion on raisin buns in the air fryer
Raisin buns in the air fryer are a fantastic invention for any baking enthusiast seeking faster cooking times and healthier alternatives without compromising on flavor. Variations with other dried fruits offer even more ways to enjoy this wonderful baked treat. Whether it’s for breakfast or as a bun with coffee, raisin buns prove that classic recipes can still be renewed and improved with modern technology.
