Why make Brookie in the air fryer?
When it comes to a dessert like brookies, the air fryer offers a unique advantage by creating a perfectly crisp surface while the inside stays wonderfully moist and soft. This is thanks to the way the circulating heat in the air fryer bakes efficiently without drying out our dessert, which can be a challenge in traditional ovens. On top of that, the air fryer is energy-efficient and can significantly reduce the cooking time, which is ideal for the busy dessert lover.
What kind of cake is a Brookie?
A Brookie is a cake that combines the best elements of both a brownie and a cookie. The result is a cake with a crisp, crunchy outer edge, while the center stays soft and almost melting, just like a classic brownie. This dessert is perfect for those who find it hard to choose between a cookie and a brownie, since it offers a double dose of sweet delight in every bite.
I recommend this cozy hot cocoa with our delicious brookie
When it comes to cake, a good cup of cocoa is indispensable. I can warmly recommend Hot chocolate with marshmallows: 2 x Cocoture choco sticks – it’s the perfect finishing touch. Happy baking!
Who invented it and where does the cake come from?
The Brookie as a concept is relatively new and originates from the USA. The exact place of origin and the inventor are not well defined, since several bakers and dessert enthusiasts have claimed credit for fusing these two classic American desserts. The Brookie began to gain popularity in the early 2000s. Since then it has spread to cafés and bakeries all over the world as a modern and trendy dessert choice.
Cooking techniques for the cake to create a clean divide between the two cake types
To ensure a clear divide between the cookie and the brownie in a brookie, it’s important to use the right baking techniques. The key lies in carefully placing each layer on top of the other and avoiding mixing the two doughs together too much. One technique is to use a spoon to gently cover the cookie dough with the brownie dough, and then smooth the surface. By making sure the air fryer is preheated, you achieve an even bake, and the different layers get the desired texture.
Which flavor variations of the Brookie can you make?
- Peanut Butter Brookie: By adding peanut butter to the cookie dough before the brownie layer goes on, you can enrich your brookie with a creamy, nutty flavor. Peanut butter complements both the richness of the chocolate and the sweet cookie dough.
- Mint Chocolate Brookie: Add a few drops of peppermint extract to the brownie dough and top with crushed peppermint candies before baking. This adds a fresh, cool note that pairs beautifully with the deep chocolate flavor.
- Salted Caramel Brookie: Sprinkle flaky salt and pieces of caramel between the layers. The salt highlights the sweet caramel and chocolate, creating an irresistible taste experience.
For a fruity variation of the cake, you can replace the chocolate buttons with nuts or dried fruit.
