Why make chocolate buns in the air fryer?
The air fryer has quickly gained popularity in many kitchens thanks to its ability to cook food with less oil and in less time. When it comes to baking, the air fryer offers a range of benefits that make it an ideal choice for chocolate buns.
Faster cooking time: Traditional ovens often require a longer preheating time and baking time. With an air fryer, you can shorten this process considerably. Preheating only takes a few minutes, and the baking time for chocolate buns is reduced to approximately 10-12 minutes per batch.
I recommend this dark coffee for our chocolate buns
When the warm chocolate buns come out of the air fryer, there’s no better accompaniment than a good cup of black coffee. The dark chocolate pairs fantastically with the deep, roasted notes of a strong coffee bean, creating an intense and harmonious flavour experience. I highly recommend Puro Organic Dark Roast Coffee Beans – 1 kg – enjoy it!
Even baking: The air fryer circulates hot air evenly around the food, ensuring consistent baking. This means your chocolate buns will have a perfectly golden crust and a soft, fluffy inside every time.
Energy-saving: Air fryers generally use less energy than traditional ovens, making them a more environmentally friendly and economical choice.
Easy cleaning: Most air fryers are designed with removable parts that can be washed in the dishwasher. This makes cleaning up after baking quick and hassle-free.
What types of chocolate can you use in chocolate buns?
The choice of chocolate plays a decisive role in the flavour of your chocolate buns. Here are some suggestions for the types of chocolate you can use:
Dark chocolate: Dark chocolate with a high cocoa percentage (70% or more) gives an intense and rich flavour. The bitter undertone in dark chocolate complements the sweet dough perfectly and adds depth to the buns.
Milk chocolate: If you prefer a milder and sweeter flavour, milk chocolate is a good choice. Its creamy texture and sweetness make the buns extra delicious and kid-friendly.
White chocolate: White chocolate adds a unique sweetness and creaminess to the buns. Since white chocolate doesn’t contain cocoa solids, it has a more subtle flavour that pairs well with vanilla and other aromatic ingredients.
Combinations: For an exciting flavour experience, you can combine different types of chocolate. Try, for example, a mix of dark and milk chocolate or white and dark chocolate to create a complex flavour profile.
You can vary the filling by adding nuts and dried fruit. Replace half of the chocolate with this.
What toppings can you use?
Chocolate buns can be enjoyed on their own, but with the right topping you can elevate the flavour experience even more. Here are some topping suggestions that go perfectly with chocolate buns:
Butter: Fresh butter is a classic. Try making your own homemade butter by whipping cream until it separates and forms butter. A pinch of sea salt can be added to the butter for extra flavour.
Jam: Jam or marmalade adds a fruity sweetness that balances the richness of the chocolate. Strawberry, raspberry or apricot jam are especially good choices.
Nutella: For the ultimate chocolate experience, you can spread a layer of Nutella on your buns. This creamy hazelnut and chocolate spread is a favourite among both children and adults.
Cheese: A slice of mild cheese like gouda or havarti can also be an interesting addition. The cheese adds a lightly salted and creamy flavour that complements the chocolate well.
