Spinach lasagne is one of those dishes I come back to again and again when I want something filling and green on the table without firing up the big oven. And yes – it works brilliantly in the air fryer. I’ve tested my way to a method where the lasagne turns out creamy inside, with a golden, crisp cheese crust on top, and where the total time is far shorter than in a regular oven.

Why I love spinach lasagne in the air fryer
There’s something especially satisfying about making lasagne in the air fryer. The heat circulates evenly around the dish, so the cheese layer bubbles and browns, while the spinach and ricotta filling stays juicy. I save both time and electricity, and the kitchen doesn’t get as hot as when I use the oven for a whole hour.
The difference between air fryer and oven
In a regular oven, a spinach lasagne typically takes 45-55 minutes at 200 degrees. In my air fryer it’s done in 25-30 minutes at 160 degrees, and the cheese turns noticeably more golden. The hot air hits the top directly, giving that lovely, slightly crisp surface that otherwise requires the oven’s grill function.
My kitchen test of spinach lasagne
I made four different versions before landing on the recipe I’m sharing here. For the first attempt I ran it at 180 degrees for 20 minutes – the result was a slightly too dark top and a centre that wasn’t quite heated through. For the second attempt I lowered it to 150 degrees for 35 minutes, but then the cheese didn’t turn golden enough. The third test hit the mark: 160 degrees for 25 minutes with foil over the first 15 minutes, and the last 10 minutes without foil. I measured the core temperature at 74 degrees in the middle of the lasagne, which is exactly what I’m after.
I used a square silicone dish measuring 18×18 cm, which fits perfectly in my 6-litre air fryer. Important: always preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes before you put the dish in – it makes a real difference to the texture of the base.
Place a sheet of baking paper under the dish so you can easily lift the lasagne out when it’s time to cut it. It’s a little trick that saves both the dish and your mood.

The typical mistakes and how to avoid them
The most common mistake is using too high a temperature. At 180 degrees or more, the cheese burns before the filling is hot. Stick to 160 degrees – that’s the magic limit in the air fryer for lasagne. Another classic is using frozen spinach without squeezing the liquid out properly. The result is a watery lasagne where the layers slide. Thaw the spinach completely and squeeze it dry in a clean tea towel. The third mistake is forgetting the foil for the first few minutes – without foil the top turns dark long before the middle is heated through. Cover it for 15 minutes, and take the foil off for the last 10.
How to serve spinach lasagne
The lasagne stands beautifully on its own, but gets even better with a couple of good things on the side:
- A fresh green salad with lemon vinaigrette and toasted pine nuts
- Garlic bread or a piece of crisp focaccia
- A glass of light red wine, such as a Chianti or Valpolicella
- Roasted cherry tomatoes with balsamic as a little side garnish
- A dollop of fresh pesto or a spoonful of ricotta on top
Storage and reheating
Leftovers keep well for 3 days in the fridge in a sealed container. I reheat them in the air fryer at 150 degrees for 8-10 minutes – it gives a much better texture than the microwave, where the cheese turns rubbery. You can also freeze the lasagne in portions; thaw in the fridge overnight before you heat it.
About 25-30 minutes at 160 degrees. Cover with foil for the first 15 minutes, and remove it for the last 10 for a golden top.
Yes, but thaw it completely and squeeze the liquid out in a tea towel, otherwise the lasagne turns watery.
A square silicone or ceramic dish measuring 18×18 cm fits most 6-litre air fryers. Check the internal measurements first.
Spinach lasagne in the air fryer has become a firm favourite of mine, and I hope you have the same good experience. Give it a go at the weekend – I promise you won’t miss the oven.

Ingredients
Spinach filling
- 450 g frozen chopped spinach (Thawed and well drained)
- 1 pcs onion (Finely chopped)

- 2 clove garlic (Finely chopped)

- 1 tbsp olive oil

- 0.5 tsp salt

- 0.25 tsp pepper

Béchamel sauce
- 40 g butter

- 40 g plain flour

- 5 dl milk

- 0.5 tsp grated nutmeg
- 0.5 tsp salt

- 0.25 tsp pepper

Layering and topping
- 9 pcs lasagne sheets

- 150 g grated mozzarella
- 50 g grated parmesan
How to make it
Preparation
- Thaw 450 g frozen spinach and press out all the liquid well. Finely chop 1 onion and 2 cloves of garlic.
- Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a pan and gently sauté the onion and garlic for 2-3 minutes. Add the spinach and fry for 2 minutes. Season with 0.5 tsp salt and 0.25 tsp pepper. Remove from the heat.
Béchamel sauce
- Melt 40 g butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in 40 g plain flour and let it cook for 1 minute.
- Add 5 dl milk a little at a time, whisking constantly. Cook the sauce through for 3-4 minutes until it thickens.
- Season with 0.5 tsp grated nutmeg, 0.5 tsp salt and 0.25 tsp pepper.
Layering
- Grease an ovenproof dish that fits in your air fryer. Spread a thin layer of béchamel sauce over the bottom.
- Place 3 lasagne sheets on top. Spread over half the spinach and a third of the béchamel sauce. Sprinkle with a little mozzarella.
- Repeat with 3 lasagne sheets, the rest of the spinach and another third of the sauce.
- Finish with the last 3 lasagne sheets, the remaining béchamel sauce and sprinkle with 150 g mozzarella and 50 g parmesan.
Cooking in the air fryer
- Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C.
- Place the dish in the air fryer and cover loosely with a piece of air fryer paper or foil for the first 15 minutes so the cheese doesn’t get too dark.
- Bake for 20 minutes. Then remove the paper and bake for a further 5-8 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbling. (Check a couple of times along the way.)
- Let the lasagne rest for 5-10 minutes before serving so it can set.
Our notes for the recipe
Press all the moisture out of the spinach – otherwise the lasagne turns watery. Use a dish that fits in your air fryer so the air can circulate around it. Variation:
Add a layer of ricotta or cottage cheese mixed with an egg for extra creamy filling, or crumbled feta on top for a salty kick. Serving:
Serve with a fresh green salad and a piece of crusty bread. Portion size:
If your air fryer is small, you can make the lasagne in two smaller dishes and bake them one at a time.
