Why make pork tenderloin stew in the airfryer?

Using an airfryer for pork tenderloin stew might sound unconventional, but there are actually several good reasons to consider this method. Here are some of the main benefits:

    • Time-saving: The airfryer often shortens the cooking time, as it both sears and simmers the ingredients quickly. On busy weekdays, this can be a huge advantage.
    • Less fat: When you use an airfryer, you need far less oil than with traditional frying. The bacon turns crispy without becoming greasy, and the pork tenderloin stays tender with a minimal amount of fat.
    • Constant temperature control: The airfryer ensures even cooking, which makes it easier to keep the meat tender and the sauce creamy.

Additionally, the airfryer fits well with a modern and healthier approach to cooking, where you cut back on fat while still wanting an easy but flavorful solution.

Where does pork tenderloin stew come from?

Pork tenderloin stew is part of the Danish culinary landscape and often appears on the menu when Danes are looking for something familiar and comforting. The dish can be traced back to traditional Danish farmhouse cooking, where pork has always played a central role. Over the years, pork tenderloin stew has evolved and become a favorite, especially during the winter months, when we like to enjoy warm, hearty dishes.

The Danish climate has made pork a staple of Danish cuisine, and Danish-produced pork and bacon are often preferred for their excellent quality and flavor. The dish also incorporates mushrooms, which thrive well in Denmark and are available year-round. The combination of these ingredients in a creamy cream sauce creates a flavor experience loved by many.

Can you use other meat and vegetables?

Although pork tenderloin stew is traditionally made with pork tenderloin, the dish can be adapted to suit taste and preferences. If you want to try something different, here are some alternatives:

The dish can be varied and adapted to preferences without losing its soul as a traditional, creamy stew. It’s about finding the flavors that appeal to you the most and adjusting the dish accordingly.

Try adding a touch of Dijon mustard or Worcestershire sauce to the cream sauce. Just a small spoonful can lift the flavor and give the dish a deeper, more complex taste without overpowering the classic ingredients.

What to serve with pork tenderloin stew in the airfryer?

The side dishes for a pork tenderloin stew play an important role in the meal, and there are several classic choices that can enhance the flavor of the dish. Here are some of the most popular sides:

    • Mashed potatoes: The creamy mashed potatoes are ideal for absorbing the sauce, creating a filling and satisfying experience. Use Danish potatoes, as they often have a nice, starchy texture.
    • Rice: If you want a lighter alternative, rice is also a great choice. The cooked rice works well with the sauce and gives the dish an extra lift.
    • Pasta: Ribbon pasta or penne can add an interesting texture and give an otherwise classic Danish dish an international twist.
    • Root vegetables: Roasted root vegetables like carrots, parsnips and celeriac can be served as a side and add both sweetness and color to the dish.
    • A fresh salad: A crisp green salad with, for example, spinach, cucumber and bell pepper can give the dish a bit of freshness and balance to the heavier elements.

    Conclusion

Pork tenderloin stew in the airfryer is a modern and practical approach to a Danish classic, one that can both save time and reduce the fat content of the dish. The airfryer makes it easy to prepare the entire dish in one bowl, resulting in a simpler cooking process and a flavor experience that matches the traditional method.

At the same time, the dish is incredibly flexible and can be adapted to taste and needs. Whether you choose classic Danish pork or experiment with chicken, beef or plant-based alternatives, you can create your own version of pork tenderloin stew that suits your preferences.

This dish is perfect for the cooler days when you want a warm, nourishing meal, and the airfryer makes it possible to enjoy the familiar flavor without much hassle. Combined with mashed potatoes, rice or crisp vegetables, pork tenderloin stew in the airfryer is a sure winner at the dinner table, whether you’re eating alone or sharing with family.
