You can replace the salmon with most types of fish. You just have to adjust the time slightly up or down, depending on the type of fish.

The evolution of the salmon lasagna

But as the gastronomic landscape has evolved, chefs and food enthusiasts have experimented with different ingredients to bring new dimensions to familiar dishes. Using salmon instead of beef in lasagna is a great example of this evolution, where the delicate, light flavor of salmon beautifully complements the deeper tones of spinach and cheese.

Salmon Lasagna with Spinach in Air Fryer a healthier choice

This combination of salmon and spinach is not only a gastronomic delight, but also a healthier alternative to the traditional lasagna. The salmon provides a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, while the spinach contributes vitamins and minerals.

I recommend this elegant Chardonnay with our salmon lasagna

The creamy ricotta and rich salmon in this lasagna deserve a wine with a little body and freshness. A good Chardonnay, with its soft fruit and delicate oak character, pairs perfectly with the buttery salmon, while the acidity cuts through the cheese and keeps the dish in balance. I can warmly recommend Hamilton Russell Vineyards Chardonnay 2023 – it is simply made for fish and creamy dishes like this one.

This dish is a testament to how you can transform a classic favorite into a modern, healthier version that still preserves the depth and heartwarmth of the original recipe. The salmon lasagna with spinach is a tribute to both the traditions of the past and the culinary innovations of the future.

Ingredients

  • 400 g salmon fillets (skinless and boneless)
  • 250 g fresh spinach
  • 9 pcs lasagna sheets (pre-cooked or fresh)
  • 200 g ricotta cheese
  • 50 g parmesan cheese
  • 2 dl milk
  • 1 dl cream
  • 2 clove garlic (finely chopped)
  • 1 pcs onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • ½ tsp salt and pepper
  • ½ tsp olive oil
  • 1 pinch sugar

How to make it

  • Prepare the Ingredients:
Finely chop the onion and garlic. Rinse and drain the spinach. Cut the salmon into smaller pieces.
  • Sauté the Spinach:
Heat a little olive oil in a pan and sauté the spinach, onion and garlic until the spinach wilts. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Make the Ricotta Mixture:
In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with dill, a little salt and pepper.
  • Make the Milk Mixture:
In a small saucepan, heat the milk and cream. Add the grated parmesan cheese and stir until the cheese melts. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Assemble the Lasagna:
Start by placing a layer of lasagna sheets in the bottom of the lasagna dish. Add a layer of salmon, then the spinach mixture, and finally the ricotta mixture. Repeat the process until all the ingredients are used. Finish with a layer of lasagna sheets and pour the milk mixture over the top.
  • Cook in the Air Fryer:
Preheat the air fryer to 180°C. Cover the lasagna dish with foil and place it in the air fryer. Cook for about 25-30 minutes, or until the lasagna is golden and heated through.
  • Serving: Let the lasagna rest for a few minutes before serving.

Our notes for the recipe

Cooking Tips:

  1. Fresh Ingredients: Use fresh spinach and good-quality salmon for the best flavour.
  2. Lasagna Sheets: If you use dried lasagna sheets, it’s a good idea to pre-soak them in warm water for a few minutes to make sure they cook through completely.
  3. Even Distribution: Make sure to spread the ingredients evenly across the layers, so every bite has a good balance of salmon, spinach and cheese.
  4. Check the Cooking: Since air fryers vary, keep an eye on the lasagna while it cooks to avoid it getting too brown.

Serving Suggestions:

  1. Fresh Herbs: Garnish with fresh herbs like dill or parsley to add freshness and colour.
  2. Salad: Serve with a light mixed green salad with a simple vinaigrette to add freshness and balance.
  3. Bread: A piece of crusty baguette or focaccia bread is excellent for soaking up any sauce.
  4. White Wine: A cool, dry white wine like Pinot Gris or Chardonnay will complement the flavour of the salmon perfectly.
  5. Lemon: Serve with a wedge of lemon to squeeze over, which will bring out the flavour of the fish.
