Why make strawberry tart in the air fryer?
This versatile kitchen appliance can actually be used to make a wide range of dishes, including baked goods like strawberry tart. There are several reasons why you should consider using an air fryer for your next strawberry tart:
- Time efficiency:An air fryer heats up quickly and often bakes faster than a traditional oven, which can save you time in the kitchen.
- Energy saving:It uses less energy than a large oven, which can be more environmentally friendly and cheaper in the long run.
- Even baking:The air fryer circulates the heat evenly around the food, which can result in a more uniform bake and a crispier base.
- Flexibility:It’s ideal for smaller portions, so if you don’t need a large strawberry tart, you can easily make a smaller version.
- Easy cleaning: Most air fryers are easy to clean, which saves time after baking.
Where does strawberry tart come from?
The strawberry tart has a long and proud history that spans several cultures. Although the exact origin can be hard to trace, the modern strawberry tart is thought to have its roots in French and German baking. The almond base — or mazarin base — which is a common foundation for the strawberry tart, is named after Cardinal Mazarin, a French-Italian statesman from the 17th century. The combination of the sweet base, rich vanilla custard and fresh berries became popular throughout Europe and has since developed into the cake we know and love today.
I recommend this fresh crémant with our strawberry tart
Strawberry tart in the air fryer is a berry feast in itself, but with a glass of chilled sparkling wine it becomes even more festive. A delicate and fruity crémant with fine little bubbles lifts the sweet almond base and the fresh berries to new heights. I can warmly recommend Crémant Perle De Vigne, Louis Bouillot Demi-Sec – best regards, Morten.
In Denmark, the strawberry tart is especially popular in summer, when Danish strawberries are in season. The fresh, sweet strawberries are a perfect match for vanilla custard and the rich almond base, which makes the strawberry tart a favourite at summer gatherings and parties.
When are Danish strawberries in season?
Danish strawberries are known for their sweetness and quality, and they are a highlight of the Danish summer. The season for Danish strawberries usually runs from mid-June to the end of July, depending on the weather. During this period the strawberries are at their best, and it’s the ideal time to make strawberry tart.
When you use Danish strawberries, you not only get the best flavour, but also the freshest berries, which are grown locally. This contributes to both the flavour and the quality of the strawberry tart. That’s why it’s a good idea to keep an eye out for Danish strawberries in the shops and at the markets during the summer months.
What other fillings can you use in your strawberry tart together with strawberries?
Although strawberries are the classic topping for strawberry tart, there are many other fillings that can complement the flavour and add variety to the cake. Here are some suggestions for alternative fillings you can try together with strawberries:
- Raspberries:They add a lovely tartness that complements the sweet strawberries and the vanilla custard.
- Blueberries:They give a deeper flavour and a beautiful colour contrast to the strawberries.
- Blackberries: They have an intense flavour and a dark colour that can give the tart a rustic and sophisticated look.
You can also experiment with different combinations of berries and fruits to create your own unique version of the strawberry tart.
To give your strawberry tart an extra touch and a luxurious flavour, you can fold a little whipped cream into the vanilla custard. This makes the custard lighter and airier, which gives a lovely contrast to the dense almond base and the fresh strawberries.
