Why make Greek potatoes in the air fryer?
There are many good reasons to make Greek potatoes in an air fryer. First of all, the air fryer is known for making crispy and delicious dishes using minimal oil. This means you can enjoy crispy potatoes without worrying about the extra calories that usually come with deep-frying.
Another advantage of using an air fryer is that it’s faster and more energy-efficient than a traditional oven. The air fryer uses hot-air technology to cook food evenly and quickly, saving time in the kitchen. It’s also easy to clean, as most air fryers have removable parts that are dishwasher-safe.
I recommend this refreshing lemonade to go with our delicious Greek potatoes
When the Greek potatoes land on the table, it’s nice to have something refreshing to drink alongside. I highly recommend the Lemon and Lime lemonade by Tuxen Brewing Co – its acidity perfectly complements the Greek spices. Best regards, Morten.
Finally, the potatoes retain their flavour and nutrients better in an air fryer. By using minimal oil and a shorter cooking time, the potatoes keep their natural flavour and texture, while still getting the crispiness that Greek potatoes are known for.
Where does the dish come from?
Greek potatoes, or “Patates Fournou” as they’re called in Greek, are a traditional dish in Greece. The dish consists of potatoes cut into wedges and cooked with olive oil, lemon, garlic and a range of aromatic spices such as oregano and thyme. This simple but delicious dish originates from the Greek islands, where the ingredients are readily available and often used in cooking.
Greece has a long history of potato cultivation, dating back to the 19th century, when potatoes were introduced to the country by the then-president Ioannis Kapodistrias. The Greeks quickly adopted the potato into their cuisine, and today potatoes are an indispensable part of many traditional Greek dishes.
The Greeks are known for their fantastic olive oil, which can elevate the flavour of the potatoes. Be sure to choose an extra virgin olive oil with a fruity and slightly peppery taste to add an extra dimension to the dish.
